Eloisa Braithwaite started this petition to Nightclubs and

I would like to petition to make a ban of all glasses and glass bottles in nightclubs nationally.

On New Year’s Eve 2019 in Evoque Nightclub, Preston, I was struck in the face by a glass bottle that had been thrown by someone. Initially I didn’t understand what had happened, I was in shock. I then started to taste blood in my mouth and suddenly panicked. I automatically thought that my front teeth had been knocked out due to the amount of blood dripping from my mouth. They hadn’t been, thank goodness, however my top lip had been bust in several places and was extremely swollen. The amount of blood I was covered in was very distressing. I had blood all over my clothes, as well as my legs and arms. My two friends rushed me to the first aid room where the two first aiders were very helpful and did a fantastic job of taking care of me.

I woke up the next day to bruising all around my swollen lip, and my front teeth and gums feeling very tender.

This incident made me feel very unsafe and ruined my start to the new year. I will not be attending nightclubs for the foreseeable future because I have been genuinely scared by this.

I feel that an incident like this could be prevented in the future if glasses and glass bottles are banned in nightclubs. Several of the nightclubs I attend use only reusable plastic cups rather than glasses, and in substitution for glass VK and WKD bottles for example, they have plastic ones. I realise that branded bottles are not reusable and recycling would be an issue, however I’m sure another alternative could be produced that is safer than glass.

Please support and share my petition to ban glasses and glass bottles in nightclubs so that no one has the same experience that I’ve had in the future.
