Signing Social Media Regulation Bill to avoid spread of Fake News in Nigeria

The Issue

It is no news that the spread of Fake news in the world today presents one of the most challenging threats to a peaceful society. In Nigeria, we are particularly in need of a law that will regulate what people share on their social media accounts, and be held responsible for every information they share to the public. The earlier we rise together to face this monster, the better for us all of us. The most recent protest against police brutality in Nigeria has shown us how sensitive the Nigerian space is, with regards to information shared on social media. Unfortunately, so many people that do not wish th country we'll have leveraged on that and have shared so many false stories that had contributed to the lost of lives and properties worth billions of Naira, in an economy that is already suffering. It is our responsibility to stand firm and demand from our legislative arm of government to come up with a law that regulates our activities on social media. While we have the right to express ourselves freely in every form, we must be responsible for whatever we post and be held accountable for it. Thank you very much for believing in a peaceful and United Nigeria for all of us. God bless Nigeria.
