The Nigerian Police Force have a bad record when it comes to doing their jobs. They are quick to intimidate, harass and shoot innocent and law abiding citizens with or without the slightest provocation. These sometimes leads to the victim been hospitalised or turning their family into a sorrowful state. But we can not keep on enduring this behaviour no more  because Nigerians are tired of having to look over our shoulders in fear of getting killed by the force that’s meant to protect us all.

The Nigerian Police Force formed a unit that would curb the rising threats of armed robberies. Their major goal was to limit the level of gun violence in the country. Although they mostly achieved their goal, but it was done through inhumane ways. In recent years, The Special Anti Robery Squad began the task of invading the privacy of citizens by checking their phones without their consent. If and when a citizen protests, he/she is beaten up at best, at worst, he/she is shot in cold blood.

We didn't make the country this way. We are just living in it. An average Nigerian does not wake up in the morning without fear of getting shot or harassed by the police.

We've become accustomed to statements like "stop there or I will finish your life", "you stupid criminal, I will waste you". And all for what? Money? A sense of superiority? There's even another funny statement we’re all accustomed to as a joke: "Police is your friend". The only way that this statement can be further from the truth is if it was to be on a different planet. Does your friend slap you? Harass you? Aim a gun at your face? Threaten to "waste" you?

The lives of the people that are considered to be the pride of the nation, have been reduced to nothing. The Nigerian Police Force are free to stomp on any citizen who is thought to be guilty. They have become Judge and executioner, declaring citizens guilty on the spot while the government we voted for ignores our cries and pleas to save us.

It is time we all stand up for our right and sign this petition in other to let them hear our voices.
