Educate about marginalized groups in schools with anti-prejudice lessons

The Issue

Offensive microagressions against children from minority groups in schools - use of slurs such as the 'n' word, 'f' word, 't' word etc. not only contribute to prejudice but also internalises damaging feelings of self-hatred for children that last lifetimes. Many children from marginalized groups feel invalidated and ashamed of their identity, as the curriculum does not view them as important enough to devote learning to. It also does not educate about problems that stem from ignorance - racism, misogyny, ableism, transphobia, homophobia, to name a few. By including lessons that explore history of minority groups, raise awareness and aim to combat discrimination, it will not only validate children but also reduce prejudice - leading us one step further to a harmonious society.
