Solomon (Sol) David Bellear, a Bundjalung Indigenous Australian died recently. Known for his dedication to improving the health and social well-being of ATSI peoples he was given an Order of Australia (AM). He was also well known for his sporting triumphs as a rugby player for South Sydney Rabbitohs. However, a wish was never fulfilled. In 1992, Sol asked Paul Keating to the stage to deliver a speech (https://antar.org.au/sites/default/files/paul_keating_speech_transcript.pdf This speech had such an impact on Sol he wanted these words placed on a huge boulder and set in the grounds of the park. Though in over 20 years of campaigning no sign of a large boulder in Redfern Park, Sydney. In closing, Paul could not imagine failing a society with over 50,000+ history. So sign this petition as a gesture to a Bundjalung man, that through truth and dreams success could be achieved and #CloseTheGap not just a mission statement.
