Reboot "Are You Afraid Of The Dark"

Reboot "Are You Afraid Of The Dark"
The Issue
Unless you've been living under a rock since the decade itself, you've probably noticed how the 90s are coming back in a big way. And nowhere (except maybe fashion) is this more evident than TV with the success of Girl Meets World as well as upcoming revivals ranging from Twin Peaks to The X-Files to Full House to even The Magic School Bus. Well, there is one hidden gem of 90s TV that they haven't yet rebooted and I think they should:
the Nickelodeon show Are You Afraid Of The Dark
For those of you that never got a chance to watch it or even read the novelizations, Are You Afraid Of The Dark was basically like a kids' version (with more happy endings) of The Twilight Zone with each episode presenting a new spooky story. The frame device they used for these stories was The Midnight Society, a secret club for teen/tween horror fanatics who met every night at midnight around a campfire in a secret place in the woods. Every night it was a new member's turn to tell the story that makes up the bulk of the episode, and it usually had some relevance to something that had been going on in that character's daytime life.
So, now that you know what it's about (if you didn't know already), here are five reasons why it should be rebooted:
1. As you can tell by the primetime lineup, we are currently in the midst of a sci-fi/fantasy renaissance as far as TV is concerned. Even our kids shows are getting weirder, scarier and more adult-oriented (some examples being Steven Universe, Gravity Falls and Over The Garden Wall, and that's just the cartoons) and that's the sort of TV climate Are You Afraid Of The Dark would fit right in.
2. (but sorta tied to 1.) Despite being a resurrection of an old show, it would still be unique on the TV lineup as a horror/fantasy anthology-ish show since there isn't an incarnation of The Twilight Zone currently airing new episodes and Are You Afraid Of The Dark's spiritual successor R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour has (if I remember correctly) stopped airing new episodes on The Hub
3. Ironically for a visual medium, it might spark a resurgence in the seemingly lost art of storytelling. It has already been proven how much young people's hobbies are influenced by what is promoted in the media. I'm not talking about in a negative sex-drugs-and-rock-and-roll kind of way; e.g. before Glee, show choir was basically a nonentity only achieving recognizability in the lyrics of the Weird Al hit "White And Nerdy" and now show choir/acapella is the latest big musical thing. Wouldn't it be worth it if it took a TV show to get kids older than, like, eight to spend at least some of their free time sitting around telling stories?
4. Just plain nostalgia. As these 90s reboots start piling up, I have the vibe that we might see some made kind of, well, crappily, just to make money off us 90s kids. The thing about Are You Afraid Of The Dark is that it's kinda under the radar as far as 90s TV nostalgia goes so anyone seriously interested in bringing this reboot to life has to be truly passionate about the project which means it will probably be made well.
5. Since it's an anthology show, it will be able to be rebooted easier than a more serial show. They could even break some new ground with fantasy/horror stories based around digital-age "things"(like The Librarians did with an episode centered around hypercompetitive students "eliminating the competition" at a STEM fair thanks to a magical wish-granting phone app). Even updating the Midnight Society frame story would be a breeze, just begin with the children of the original Midnight Society members discovering their parents' old haunts/deciding to continue the family tradition and then go from there.
So who's with me in wanting a reboot of this underrated classic? To begin in true AYAOTD fashion...
Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this...
