This is probably the biggest news we've had so far on this petition! Netflix and Nickelodeon are teaming up in a multi-year contract to produce original films and series for the service!
We've already seen them bring some of the live action shows and movies I mentioned in the last update, but this time, it's bigger. Andre Meadows, aka Black Nerd Comedy, had just recently made a video on this very subject, and he said that they'll be making movies and series for both the current Nick library, and original IPs. Plus, this announcement got both Andre and myself thinking of possibilities of what Nick could bring to Netflix over the next few years. But why? Simple, competition.
When people think of Disney and Marvel, they think of Disney+, and when they think of the upcoming HBO Max, they'll think Looney Tunes, Sesame Street, and Hanna-Barbera. This means that when you think of Nickelodeon properties on streaming services, you think of Nick-Nick-Nick-Nick Na Nick-Nick-Nick Nickelodeon! This will be a great plus to what Netflix has already in terms of family entertainment. And, there was a rumor a while back that there was supposed to be a Nicktoons Movie, in which the Nick characters you grew up with, like Doug, Hey, Arnold, Ren and Stimpy, and Rugrats all got together for something, making it kinda like Space Jam or Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
There's a lot of potential to be had out of this deal, so what are we and Nick waiting for? We still have our goal of bringing the old Nick shows back for the new generation to watch and enjoy with their folks on both Netflix and DVD, but now we have to influence them on what we want to see on Netflix as part of this deal. Shows like Nick Arcade could make a comeback, maybe a reunion for Salute your Shorts or Pete and Pete Cousin Skeeter, for crying out loud. After all, as Andre said, if they decide to create a follow up to the old 90's children's classic Gullah Gullah Island, then he, and essentially anyone else who watched the show back in the day, will watch it. However, we know that the host of Nick Knacks explained that Nickelodeon can't bring out the old compilation shows of way back when as they'd have to sign deals with the companies that own the rights to them in order to stream them, mainly shows like the shows that started Nickelodeon, Pinwheel. But it would be cool if they actually did that.
Now, if you have an idea for what you think could come out of this multi-year deal between Netflix and Nickelodeon, explain what it is. And while your at it, sign up and support the cause and maybe donate a little money if you have it to spare, that'll help out the Childhood Memory Preservation Army a lot!
