We, the concerned parents and citizens of Nicholasville, Kentucky, are calling for immediate action to install metal detectors in Jessamine County schools.

This school year alone, our children have already experienced multiple serious threats and school lockdowns. It is heartbreaking that they must endure the fear, confusion, and trauma of these events, including seeing armed officers inside their schools — a sight no child should become accustomed to.

If we do not act, the risks will only continue to grow. Without preventive measures, dangerous situations could escalate, putting students, teachers, and staff at even greater risk. Even when threats do not result in harm, the emotional toll on our children is real and lasting.

Now is the time to act. Installing metal detectors would:

• Deter unauthorized weapons from entering the building.

• Help prevent dangerous situations before they happen.

• Provide greater peace of mind for students, parents, teachers, and the entire community.

While we are grateful for the quick and serious response from our law enforcement officers, we believe it is critical to add an extra layer of protection — one that reduces the need for emergency lockdowns and helps keep our schools safe.

Though this petition is focused on Nicholasville and Jessamine County schools, we believe these safety measures should eventually be adopted in schools across all of Kentucky. Every child deserves to feel safe at school!! Please sign and share this petition to help protect our kids.
