Durante al menos 5 años, los cazadores furtivos de la arena de la playa en Nicaragua han estado retirando aproximadamente un gran camión de arena de Pochomil y la playa de Massachapa cada noche.

Por lo general, trabajando de noche, estas personas introducen arena de la hermosa playa de Pochomil en su camión y la retiran de la playa.

La playa de Pochomil es famosa por su maravillosa playa de arena blanca. Después de años de remoción de arena, la playa ahora es mucho más baja que nunca. Las imágenes de antes y después muestran que en algunas áreas la arena de la playa está más de 4 pies más baja.

También se ven afectadas por este problema las tortugas marinas.

Hay dos tortugas en Nicaragua que están en peligro crítico de extinción, a saber, la tortuga laúd y la tortuga carey. La tortuga verde, la tortuga golfina y la tortuga boba también están en peligro, y la urgencia de mantener a la tortuga verde fuera de la lista en peligro crítico tiene prioridad.

Con la eliminación de la arena de la playa, esto no solo elimina potencialmente los huevos vivos, sino que también elimina la arena natural que estas tortugas necesitan para anidar y poner sus huevos.

For at least 5 years poachers of the Beach Sand in Nicaragua have been removing approximately one large truckload of sand from Pochomil and Massachapa Beach every night.   

Usually working at night these individuals shovel sand from Beautiful Pochomil Beach into their truck and remove it from the Beach.   

Pochomil Beach is renowned for its wonderful white sand beach. After years of sand removal, the beach is now noticeably much lower than ever before. Before and after pictures show that in some areas the beach sand is more than 4 feet lower!

Also affected by this problem are Sea Turtles.

There are two turtles of Nicaragua that are critically endangered, namely the leatherback turtle and the hawksbill turtle. The green turtle, olive ridley sea turtle and the loggerhead turtles are also endangered, with the urgency of keeping the green turtle off the critically endangered list taking priority.

With the removal of the sand from the beach not only does this potentially remove live eggs but it removes the natural sand these turtles need to nest and lay their eggs in.
