The GMC is the regulatory body for doctors in the UK funded by doctors, for patients. As such it is responsible for setting standards, education, patient safety and ultimately medical registration.

Charlie Massey has recently been appointed to take over from Niall Dickson as Chief Executive later in 2016.

On the 23rd February 2016, Charlie Massey made what can only be described as, an embarrassing and frankly incompetent appearance in front of the Public Accounts Committee. His failure to answer ANY of the points put forward by the committee demonstrates a man completely out of touch and out of his depth. His handling of the new junior doctors contract has been a calamity and left a toxic rift with doctors nationwide. 

We as the funding body of the GMC, believe this appointment is entirely inappropriate given the recent breakdown in relationship between the DoH and junior doctors.

We the undersigned, strongly urge the GMC to reconsider this appointment.
