Ban animals being sold in pet shops

Ban animals being sold in pet shops
The issue
Pet shops sell animals bred in sub-standard conditions. In Australia, laws are in place to regulate the standard of conditions animals are kept in, but it is impossible to monitor all breeders everywhere and to know what goes on behind closed doors.
Pet shops also encourage impulse purchases of pets and every year thousands of unwanted animals are abandoned. Shelters spend time and money looking after these animals and put a toll on our economy. They cannot look after all these pets forever and all those animals are eventually destroyed.
The best way to make sure animals are treated kindly and experience an adequate standard of life, is to ban the sales of animals in pet shops.
