‘No One’s Listening’, an inquiry into the avoidable deaths and failures of care for sickle cell patients in secondary care was published this month (Nov 21).  Researched and presented by the All Party Parliamentary Group and the Sickle Cell Society.  A welcome report resonating and providing evidence of what I have been saying about sickle cell care for over 40 years.

Findings:-

·       Sub-standard care in A&E and on general wards

·       Failings in providing joined up sickle cell care

·       Low awareness among healthcare professionals and inadequate training

·       Negative attitudes towards sickle cell patients, underpinned by racism

·       Inadequate investment in sickle cell care

A whole host of worthy recommendations are included in the report (see link below).

Campaigning for better care still needs to continue to ensure that the findings are taken seriously and recommendations are carried out rather than this just being an empty voice of rhetoric.  The report is not an official publication from Parliament and as such is not approved by Parliament.   The All Party Parliamentary Group, an informal interest group, is extremely helpful to add weight to the voices of those suffering with sickle cell and inadequate basic care in hospitals.

There is still a lot of work to be done for the report to be recognised, acknowledged, gain traction, and remain in focus for the much-needed changes to take place in better care and preventing needless deaths.

Thanking you so very much for all of your continued support.
