It has been a while since my last update and there are some important developments coming up, which I thought you might like to be aware of.
It is Baby Loss Awareness week on 9–15 October, ending with the Global Wave of Light on the 15th. Throughout the week bereaved parents, family members and friends commemorate the all-too-brief lives of their babies, knowing that thousands of other families elsewhere in the world will be doing the same. The week also provides an opportunity for people to talk openly about baby loss and raise awareness of this crucial issue.
October 15 is International Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day and is recognised across the world and is a time when you can join with other families across the world and take part in the global ‘Wave of Light’. Simply light a candle at 7pm and leave it burning for at least 1 hour to join us in remembering all babies who have died too soon.
For the first time in its history, this year Baby Loss Awareness Week is being officially raised within the Houses of Parliament through the work of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Baby Loss. This is co-chaired by Antoinette Sandbach MP and Will Quince MP, who are also co-hosting a related event on 12th October 2016 in the Speaker’s House in the House of Commons. I was delighted to have been invited by charity Group B Strep Support to this event, at which the Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt MP will be speaking. There will also be the opportunity to meet other parents affected by baby loss, charities, health professionals, as well as MPs and Peers who share an interest in issues surrounding baby loss. I am hopeful that this will be a really useful and worthwhile event where I can further raise awareness and action concerning our campaign about group B Strep. There will also be a backbench business debate on baby loss for MPs scheduled for 11:30am on Thursday 13th October.
Also that week, on 10 October at 10pm, there will be a programme of the “Chrissy B Show” (on SKY 203) which will look at issues of baby loss and is due to include a segment in which I will be interviewed by Chrissy about the loss of Edward and the issues around group B Strep. The programme will also be uploaded onto Chrissy’s YouTube channel.
And just one more thing, journalist and blogger Jacqui Paterson has written a fairly in depth piece about my story on her website “Mummy’s Little Monkey”. It was a pretty hard and emotional experience for me relating what happened to Edward, Scott and me to Jacqui, but she has written a really good article and I hope that this will make an impact with people to help understand how GBS can really affect families and how crucial it is that the changes we seek are made now. The link is below – please read it, share it and this petition, and ask everyone to sign this petition.
Thank you for your continued support.
