The Issue

Please show your support and help save Albyn House from closure.

NHS Grampian & Police Scotland are withdrawing funds that support the drying out house in Dee Street, Aberdeen which has helped vulnerable people in the city for over 30 years.

The drying out house helps around 800 people a year by taking intoxicated people off the streets and providing them with much needed shelter. This gives them an opportunity to sober up in a safe environment prior to going home the next day.

Without this service, these people will be sent to either a hospital or to a police cell which is a completely inappropriate destination.  This will put an overwhelming strain on an already overstretched NHS and may cause overcrowding within police cells meaning these people may not receive the care they need when in such a vulnerable state.

Currently the service costs approximately £360,000 a year to run which is considerably less than treating this number of people in hospital.

These people, whether one off or regular users of the facility will be left in a vulnerable or potentially dangerous position without this essential service.

Please sign the petition to stop this essential care and support in the community being scrapped.
