The trophy awarded to the most valuable player in the Stanley Cup Playoffs is named the Conn Smythe trophy.

Smythe is the founder of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Herb Carnegie, at the time was an 18 year old black hockey player. He was destined for a promising career as a hockey player. Smythe, who was the manager at the time, said "I would happily take you tomorrow if you were white". He also offered $10,000 to anyone who could turn Carnegie white.

The NHL and NHLPA need to step up, and change the name of this trophy. Conn Smythe was blatantly racist. Racism has no place in our game, country, or world. The time for change is now!

I am asking for your signature in support. I understand that this is a small step among the issues and battle we are fighting today, however change has to come.

Black lives matter.
