Alexis H started this petition to NHCS and

This school year (2019-2020) 8th grade students in New Hanover County, Wilmington NC, were offered the course American History I, an advanced class that would earn them 1 History credit towards their HS diploma. This is a 9th grade class, and it is offered/required in HS.  On Friday, January 31st, just 5 days ago, albeit 5 months into the school year, the North Carolina Board of Education voted to change the HS requirements for graduation and thus, eliminated the American History I course and have stated a restructuring of the curriculum.  Because of this change, mid year, all 8th grade students taking American History I, will no longer receive a HS credit for the History class. Thats 5 months of projects, papers, tests and stress. If the NCBoE felt the need to change the structure of the classes, this should have been done  BEFORE the school year began, OR it should have been postponed until the school year was over and implemented for the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. These kids have worked hard to earn this credit, not to get a parting gift of an "elective credit". My daughter along with thousands of other 8th graders have worked hard to pass this difficult HS class.  Please help us convince the BOE to reverse this decision by signing the petition and granting these hard working 8th grade students in NHCS the HS credit they deserve for completing the HS class they've been taking all year!

THANK YOU!!!
