Ban Dogs from Riding in the Bed of Trucks

As many of you know, I enjoy advocating for the voiceless animals within our society. Unfortunately, within the state of NH and many other states nationwide, the law still allows dogs to ride in the back of the bed of a truck. In NH the law states that a dog is able to ride in the bed of a truck on public roads if they are tethered to the truck and the sides of the truck bed must extend vertically 46 inches. This means dogs can be chained to the bed of a pick up truck on a highway in which the speed limit is 70mph (northern NH). We don’t allow humans to ride in the bed of trucks so why do we allow dogs to? Not only does this cause distraction for drivers but can also cause serious harm to the animals in the bed of the truck. When traveling at high speeds a piece of debris could be fatal to a dog not to mention the damage the wind can cause on the dogs ENT and pulmonary system. I am in the process of starting a bill that will be presented to the NH senate in hopes of making this completely illegal. No dog should be riding in the bed of a truck regardless of whether it is restrained or not.
Thank you for taking the time to read this! Please sign this petition to help me making this illegal!
