Maximum Walbeck started this petition to NFL

On November 26th 2018, Stephen Hillenburg, marine biologist and cartoonist behind the children's cartoon Spongebob Squarepants, passed away of ALS. This hit hard for the many Spongebob fans, especially on Reddit. The subreddit r/bikinibottomtwitter and the associated Twitter account @bikini_botton is a place for Spongebob fans to gather to post memes associated with the show. A few months ago, a petition popped up asking for the NFL to play the song Sweet Victory at the Halftime Show in reference to the episode Band Geeks (which, I might add, is one of the best episodes in the series). At the time of writing this, it has over 1,200,000 signatures. Spongebob fans from all over the globe gathered to celebrate the life of Steven Hillenberg. And, to many a fans' surprise, the band Maroon 5 agreed! Roger Bumpass, the voice actor for the character Squidward Tentacles (the main focus of the episode in question), also claimed that he would be making an appearance. Everything seemed to be falling into place. But come Superbowl 53, and what do we get? A 5 second clip of the episode and Sicko Mode. This, to nobody's surprise, is not okay. This is blatant disrespect to Steven, the show he created, and the millions of fans. NFL bamboozled us, and we need to fight back. Steven Hillenburg deserves better than a song that everyone already heard 5 times yesterday.
