Fire Roger Goodell or we go after the NFL's corporate backers

The Issue

In wake of the new evidence showing Ray Rice's abuse of his then fiancee (now wife) Janay Palmer many fans of the NFL question what did the NFL know and when did it know it, specifically exactly how Roger Goodell, the NFL commissioner handled this situation. Domestic violence is a serious crime that affects the lives of men, women and children all over the world, including the United States and Canada. We need leaders and organizations that recognize that domestic violence has no place in our world.

Unfortunately, the man who heads the NFL, Roger Goodell dropped the ball by trying to hide and many believe lie and obfuscate the matter of Ray Rice's domestic violence occurance in February 2014. The video released in May should have been more than enough to dismiss Rice from the league but instead both the Ravens and Goodell perpetuated age-old misogynistic thinking by bringing out Ms. Palmer A VICTIM OF ABUSE and force HER to apologize for her role rather than understand she is a victim of abuse.

Whether or not Goddell would have or could have had access to the video is still hotly debated. However, what remains clear is that he has only acted in wake of public outcry and more disturbing his interview last night with Norah O'Donnell makes it plainly clear that he does not understand nor actually care about the ramifications of domestic violence that many of the players, aside from Rice- in his league are accused of. This can only lead us to believe that despite forced consequences for domestic violence incidents amongst the players that the NFL is complacent in perpetuating the misogyny and violence in the league.

Therefore, as a step in showing that the NFL is serious about stemming the tide of misogyny and domestic violence that still exists in North American culture we ask that Roger Goodell be fired. Failure to take this step will mean that we will start a petition and mount efforts to pressure all of the NFL's corporate backers discontinue their sponsorship and support of the organization as they too will be supporting misogyny if they continue to support your organization.
