Change Newton Veterinary Hospital Practices

The Issue

Newton Veterinary Hospital is one of the only 24/7 Vet Hospitals in Sussex County... because of this, they play a crucial role in saving many animals lives and dealing with emergencies when regular vets are closed. Time and time again, they let hundreds of us down, showing their only motive is money and not the true care of the animals... But instead of demanding this hospital be closed, why not change this hospital to be something greater? Why not change the core values of their practice to something more meaningful and practical? On top of their overly advised “euthanization practices,” their prices are sky-high. This is unfortunate, because in many cases, animals are brought here for emergencies, and sometimes those fees cannot be met, ultimately leading to the animal not receiving the correct care... and suffering. I am committed to making a change, specifically with this hospital, because of the trauma they have caused me. Last week, I had a kitten who was diagnosed with Pan Leukopenia.. He was dying, and I called Newton Veterinary Hospital explaining the situation and asking for help. I wanted my baby hospitalized.. I wanted to do my part in trying to save his life. I was promised they would help me.. promised they would care for him. I rushed him there, and they took him inside. A few minutes later, they call me, saying they cannot care for my baby, that he was “contagious” and it would put their others at risk.. and that the receptionist had lost the call before telling me so... No call was dropped. The phone call ended with me saying I was on my way.. They can’t help me... but they’ve already brought my contagious animal inside? You’re meaning to tell me they don’t have an isolation room? They can’t block off an exam room to save a life? I find it hard to believe they’ve never dealt with a contagious animal before... most times, those are the animals who need the most help. What happened next broke my heart. They brought him back outside to me and I began to drive away to find help elsewhere.. My baby Costello took a turn for the worse, and literally was dying in my arms. I called them back, crying and begging for help... Begging for them to give him fluids so I could make the trip to a vet farther away. I was put on HOLD FOR FIVE MINUTES WITH A DYING ANIMAL IN MY ARMS. They then told me all they could offer was to euthanize him.. How could they bring him inside to kill him.. but can’t give him fluids,? Their methods are very similar.. Either way he still would have needed to be inside the building.. I was heartbroken. I barely made it to another vet with him alive and he died the next day.. I encourage others to share their experiences here... share what they want to see change... Because one thing is clear here.. This Veterinary Hospital is NOT doing the best that they can do... and for certain it is not the animals best interest that they have at heart.. It’s been years, with the same bad reviews and malpractice.  We live in a rural community here in Sussex County. It’s terrifying to think you may have to drive over an hour for emergency care for your pet. Please join me and the many others.. it’s time for a change. It’s time for a proper 24/7 Veterinary Hospital to be run at this facility.. one we can trust in knowing our animals will receive the best care possible.. and without putting you in debt. Thank you for reading about my cause and I hope you will join me on this journey to change.
