After 4 years and 270 meetings, the community has made it clear what they hope for in a new senior center! But now the NewCAL project may come to a halt!

We need you to take action today! 

A group of residents have initiated an effort to stop the current plans, citing that the proposed new façade would "seriously compromise the street's visual coherence". Their goal is to have the existing senior center building landmarked by the Newton Historical Commission (NHC) in order to preserve the exterior building.

• This would require going back to the beginning of the design process, and will delay the process immeasurably.
• Note that an option to renovate and expand the existing building was already studied, with the conclusion that this option would add between $5 million and $6 million more to the cost of the project.
• The project also would take longer to complete, and would displace senior programming for a longer period.

The NHC has the final say regarding landmarking which would ultimately negate the work done by hundreds of citizens over thousands of hours over the past several years.
