Indian news channels have become a ground for shouting matches that reach to no conclusions and create an atmosphere conducive only for the lowest quality of journalism.

The so called experts/panelists leave no stones unturned in throwing slurs of all kinds at each other and often create prejudices and biases amongst the gullible, impressionable citizenry of the nation, furthering societal divide and taking away from the very purpose of news, that is giving unbiased information about daily events and an honest analysis on the same.

There was a time, not very long ago, when news analysis meant more of a civil discussion with valid arguments from all sides of the spectrum and a healthy debate after a news item was explained in depth, in an unbiased manner, by the torchbearers of our democracy's very important fourth pillar. But commercial media has taken away from all that was good and actually added to discourse in the society against all issues faced by the common man on a daily basis. Today, news channels more often than not sound like proponents of certain ideologies, often pandering to those in power, but doing it ever so subtly.

It's high time we call for some affirmative action to hold the 4th pillar of democracy accountable and make it known to the bosses at media houses that news is bigger than TRP they keep running after and that TRP can also be a by-product of substance rather than sensationalism. Help me out by signing this petition and making it reach far and wide, so that the concerned authorities hopefully take notice of the joke that Indian TV news channels have become off late.
