Petitioning District Development Newry and Mourne Council and 8 others

Newry Needs a Central Park!

The people of Newry own The Albert Basin, an unrealised gem near the city centre. It is a great location, between two waterways, at the head of Carlingford Lough, with stunning views. The Albert Basin Park Project seeks to develop this magnificent site into a much needed 15 acre green public space for the people of Newry.

THE ALBERT BASIN PARK PROJECT'S VISION

To Prevent The Albert Dock/Middlebank area being sold off and save the area for the long-term benefit of all the people of the Newry area.

■ To create an Iconic Park/Greenway in the heart of Newry

■ To build a playground for young and old

■ To develop all-ages leisure facilities including a running/cycling track, a skatepark, improved angling and water sports facilities

■ To create a Maritime Museum that celebrates the site’s important maritime history

■ To plant a Tree-Trail containing all Native Irish Tree Species

■ To develop a tranquil oasis with a wildlife sanctuary

■ To create a communal focal point in the heart of Newry
