NNPS Bus Drivers are underpaid for the work they do for our students and their families. NNPS has also been experiencing Bus Driver shortages that have resulted in Bus Drivers needing to do multiple runs. Students have been arriving late for school, or have even been needing to wait on the school sidewalk for a bus. This has been taking 30 minutes to an hour.

Several other school districts in the area have also been experiencing the same issue. Some of the school districts have been trying to solve the issue. For example, recently Williamsburg-James City schools raised their Bus Driver pay from $15.24 an hour to $16.49 an hour. This was a $1.25 raise in pay. 

NNPS can take a step to raise the pay to resolve Bus Driver deficit issues. We are petitioning to raise the pay of NNPS Bus Drivers by $1.20 an hour. According to the NNPS website, NNPS Bus Drivers are currently paid $15.80 an hour. By raising the pay by $1.20, the Bus Drivers will be paid $17.00 an hour! This would be significant as we would be one of the highest paying School Bus Employers in the area!

The NNPS fiscal year will be coming to an end in a few months, which will be a perfect opportunity to change the Bus Driver’s salary budget!
