Rizwana Khan started this petition to Newham Council and

Conflicting messages given to Social Housing Tenants regarding parking availability in the Royal Wharf area. Residents left confused and in fear of being fined.

The Social Housing residents on Royal Wharf are made up of key workers, who have been on the frontline and risking their lives to ensure that they are able to fight against the consequences of this global pandemic. Residents also include households where driving is their very source of income, such as driving instructors, taxi drivers and couriers. Social Housing residents include families where mobility is a significant contributor to their quality of life, such as those with large families with small children, those in households with SEND members, the elderly and those in ill health.

WE NEED PARKING SPACES! Restricting households from parking in the borough is discriminatory and in urgent need of review. Social Housing tenants are being forced to park in crowded spaces, often limited due to the number of residents facing this very issue. Residents are being forced to pay £1000.00+ per annum, with the use of daily visitor parking permits, to park in an area where other residents are paying £100.00 per annum to do the same. This is ironic considering social housing tenants are predominantly low income households.

We are demanding that the parking restrictions be reviewed and consultation made with Notting Hill Genesis, Ballymore and The London Borough of Newham to ensure that adequate parking is available and accessible to all Newham residents and the necessary duty of care is being provided to all tenants on the Royal Wharf development.
