Hannah Taylor started this petition to Newcastle city council and

We have recently been informed that our local sports centre will remain closed indefinitely due to effects of the corona virus even though other centres have re-opened.

This centre has been a huge part of our community since it opened in 1965!! We rely on it for fitness and activities . It's not only a gym but provides activities for the kids in the school holidays,it has baby groups, provides football training through the newcastle united foundation and has the only library in the area.

Walker Activity Dome has a long and positive history in the heart of Walker. It is our DOME!! The government is constantly reminding us that we need to tackle obesity and closing this centre will affect so many people. Our children will no longer have sports activities and regular exercise which will put them back out on the streets. ( plus it is the only local gymnastics club!).

This centre also helps us tackle mental health issues and weight problems because Drs refer them here for help , the gym offers support and programs to them .

Local schools use the Domes halls and football pitches for pe lessons and for activities at christmas .They also offer affordable birthday parties and soft play.

As a community this will be a huge miss and will massively affect our area. It is the only place we have in Walker for fitness, activities and a safe place for our kids to attend youth sessions.

The library is the only one near here. It allows people to use internet and computers that they otherwise would not have access to , aswell as books. They also offer parent and baby groups.

Not only that but it will also cause job losses!

Please re-open our DOME!! This will effect everyone ..
