Our petition to Put Nature on the Map in Newcastle has triggered a full council debate.
On Wednesday 1st November we will present our petition, which calls for Newcastle City Council to conserve biodiversity and create new wildlife habitats through increased planting of trees, shrubs, hedgerows, green roofs and living walls, and the introduction of wildflower areas and weed killer free zones, to all 78 councillors and the Lord Mayor.
We started the petition in a bid to prevent the council from continuing to make decisions that harm wildlife and biodiversity across Newcastle.
The application for 1,200 houses metres from Havannah Nature Reserve – the basis of our Don’t Hem in Havannah petition – could be another one of these decisions.
The meeting will take place at 6pm in Newcastle Civic Centre and our petition will be debated no later than 6.30pm.
Meet at 5pm outside the Civic Centre, beneath the River God Tyne statue, to show your support and stand up for wildlife and green spaces in Newcastle.
