Site Designation

Following our request to Natural England to assess Havannah Nature Reserve as a potential Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), a senior adviser from the Northumbria Area Team has confirmed that although the data we submitted confirms the nature reserve is an important area for wildlife and supports significant nature conservation interest, it is unlikely the site will be designated as a SSSI in line with current guidelines. A colleague will be providing a second opinion and we are awaiting further details. Much of the data provided to Natural England was collected by members of the public. It is unclear whether Natural England would obtain its own data to inform any potential designation.
