Newcastle Borough Council - removal of grave memorials

Newcastle Borough Council - removal of grave memorials
Why this petition matters
Following the recent notice left at silverdale cemetery, residents of the local area have understandably voiced how upset they are by the request of the removal of items from loved ones graves.
A petition and community action group has since been set up to help people affected liaise with the relevant authorities.
I have been made aware this will affect all local cemeteries and crematoriums in Newcastle borough council, as agreed by NBC committee.
Specifically starting with cremation plots, then moving over to burial plots in coming months.
This has caused a great deal of distress to the local community and surrounding areas.
Owners of the affected plots have not received any contact ahead of this decision, other than signage situated in local cemeteries, specifically Silverdale.
We do understand that original deeds to the plots contain specifics regarding items left on a loved ones grave, however following a conversation with the senior registrar who agreed they have “turned a blind eye for many years” we as a community would like to continue to remember those who have passed by means of sentimental items, whilst respectfully considering neighbouring plots.
