In New Zealand we are seeing daily posts of beloved family pets being callously stolen for their pups, fighting, to be re sold or to be used as bait dogs. IF they are ever recovered it seems that the perpetrators go largely unpunished. For animal lovers, a pet is part of the family and for many, animals are their children - the trauma caused by the theft of a pet is acute, and is increased when police put the situation on the back burner. The majority of NZ pets recovered is from community and social media crowd sourcing. In 2021 we have had major dog theft cases; Pippa the heavily pregnant King Charles Cav was stolen and returned without her pups, Billy was stolen from a young boy outside a dairy, an elderly man was beaten for his Rottweiler pups and now we have nalah the bulldog (AMONG MANY OTHERS), snatched from a family, traumatising children who share a sacred bond with their furr family. ENOUGH IS ENOGH. ANIMAL THEFT IS KIDNAPPING. The punishment needs to fit the crime. I am appealing to everyone to support this cause and ask the NZ government to take a strong stance against animal theft and let these low lives know they WILL be punished and they will NEVER be able to own a pet again. 

Animals rely on us to protect them, to love and to nurture them. New Zealand needs to punish those who exploit the trust of animals and who destroy families with their greed and lack of empathy.
