Justina Pelletier was a fifteen year old girl visiting Boston from Connecticut, when she became very sick with the flu. This was not an ordinary case of the flu because she had been diagnosed years before with Mitochondrial Disease. Her older sister also had this diagnosis and was doing well with treatment. Justina's parents were engaged with her treatment through their doctor at Tufts, and when Justina became sick in Boston, they knew they had to get her medical care quickly. They did not know that Boston Children's Hospital has a recognizable pattern of kidnapping children in order to force treatment. Within four days, Children's Hospital, who decided Justina is "making it all up" . They have diagnosed her with "Somataform Disorder", a diagnosis with not one shred of empirical evidence, which Boston Children's Hospital is rumored to be  financially invested in. .The hospital speedily filed a court order and subsequently the parents were informed that they no longer have custody of their daughter. Justina's condition has been deteriorating in the year since she was abducted and she is not receiving medical treatment. A court hearing upheld the state's custody and a gag order on all parties was issued. Justina's father, Lou, in a desparate attempt to save his daughter's life, has appeared on The Glenn Beck Show to raise public awareness and is now facing contempt charges. Rallies and protests are being organized. Several facbook pages are garnering support. I'm writing this petition because in the work I do, as Director of Pubic Education for The Law Project for Psychiatric Rights, I know that this is far from an isolated incident. Parental Rights are eroding rapidly in our country. This news affects every parent in the United States of America, and people have a right to know that this is going on.
