The Issue

End the eviction moratorium. It is only hurting New York landlords and good tenants. Bad tenants are taking advantage and abusing the system. Judges should decide individual eviction cases based on the facts presented to them. Senators believe this Moratorium is helping to prevent people from being evicted during the COVID pandemic, but it is actually preventing cases from going before the judges who make eviction decisions. Most landlords are not trying to hurt tenants. Most are just trying to survive the pandemic themselves. Right now there are no checks and balances. There is no uniform system to help landlords who have bad tenants that are taking advantage of the system. Many landlords are being held hostage by abusive, aggressive, property damaging tenants. Many local NY courts are refusing to hear ANY eviction cases due to the Moratorium. It is unfair and discriminatory against landlords.

Judges should be deciding individual eviction cases. Due process should be everyone’s basic right. End the eviction moratorium.
