The over 500 signatures on our petition to the city of Ithaca, to address the dangerous traffic conditions on Floral Ave/Route 13A, are making a difference!
We had a lengthy meeting with eight city and town representatives earlier this month, and came away heartened. They are clearly taking this issue very seriously, and are already in the midst of forming both long and short term plans to address the speed and volume of traffic, as well as the need for safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists. Plans for a design evaluation by a consulting company are in the works. It seems quite possible that we may see a few early changes on the road in the next 4-6 months, and a longer term, broader-scope plan for making the road more resident-friendly by the fall.
All of our voices matter. We plan to attend the Ithaca City Common Council meeting, on February 1st at 6:00pm. If you have never been to a Common Council meeting, this would be a great opportunity. Our goal is to request that Common Council make a formal request to the New York State DOT to revoke the designated truck route status of 13A.
Thank you for your support!
