Create a More Inclusive "Medical Aid in Dying" Bill in New York State

The Issue

"A number of New York State legislators are sponsoring A 2694 / S 3947, Medical Aid in Dying Act. The bill would allow qualified, terminally-ill adult residents of New York to legally obtain a prescription from their physician for medications to end their life peacefully, in a dignified way, at the place and time of their choosing." (https://www.deathwithdignity.org/states/new-york/

As noted in the excerpt from above, this act only includes people who are determined "terminally ill" and are projected to pass within 6 months from their particular illness or condition.  People who are diagnosed with a long term disease will not reap any benefit from this bill, as they are not projected to die within 6 months.  Those facing an incurable disease will steadily decline both physically and mentally as time goes on, and will not be given any assistance from the Medical Aid in Dying Act as it is written now.  New York State should seize this opportunity of change to implement an even more COMPASSIONATE standard for those suffering from long term diseases who don't have the option of a humane and dignified end of life.

New York State should pass a bill that not only assists people who will pass from their terminal illness within 6 months, but ALSO people suffering from PROGRESSIVE, INCURABLE, DEBILITATING diseases such as ALS, PARKINSON’S, and ALZHEIMER’S.  The current bill does NOT include these people who are condemned to endless suffering with no hope of a cure, and can live on for many years with little, to no quality of life left.

Please take just a couple of minutes to sign this petition to help get a more inclusive bill passed for those in need, and tell New York State Legislators that those with long term debilitating diseases DESERVE THE CHOICE to get Medical Aid In Dying too.  If you are interested in learning more about our efforts, message Jessica Meyer or email her at jessicameyer173@gmail.com and she can support you in taking further action.  Thank you for your time and support.
