Urging the NY State Legislature NOT to cut visiting days at correctional facilities!

The Issue

The proposed budget in Albany to be voted on in the next few days (before the end of March!) would cut visiting days at some state correctional facilities from daily visits to only three days a week: Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This would make it very difficult for everyone and especially for Shabbos-observing people to visit their family members, it will have a negative impact on the inmates and will not save the state a noticeable sum of money.

In addition, less visiting hours would mean less incentive for hardened criminals not to misbehave. This would make the environment more dangerous for guards and would hinder the ability of other inmates to rehabilitate themselves.

Please oppose the proposed cuts to the State’s Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. Thank you.
