It is time to do more to protect our marine life. Endangered fish and shellfish species are continued to be sold throughout the world, with little legislations protecting them.

Not only are these fish populations not recovering, but the methods used to harvest them are often destructive towards ecosystems and other marine life. Selling fish and shellfish listed on Greenpeace's Seafood Red List is unsustainable and careless. These species include:

• Red Snapper
• Sharks
• Skates and Rays
• Swordfish
• Tropical Shrimp
• Atlantic Salmon
• Atlantic Sea Scallop

These species need time to recover. They do not deserve to go extinct because of our negligence and lack of action. The New York State government has the power to make a difference, and that is what should be done. It's more important now more than ever to protect our oceans and the life in them.
