Cargo shipping of race horses to Puerto Rico needs to stop. It is a long, cruel trip for animals that fail to meet the expectations of their owners and race trainers. Horses are housed in cramped cargo containers and spend at least 4 days in what amounts to as much space as the starting gate. Layered one after the other until the container is full if something were to happen to the first horse in and subsequent animals after it would be impossible to reach the animal in distress. This practice is all about money and unfair to any living being. I ask that the NYS Gaming Commission ban any trainer/owner from selling and shipping their track horses to Puerto Rico by way of cargo shipping. Please join the growing number of tracks around the country and use your authority through liscensure to ensure that no horse be treated in this inhumane manner. The horses that continue to attract people to the gaming centers throughout the state deserve humane and responsible handling. It is up to you to ensure the welfare of all horses that run in NYS.
