The Rochester City School District is in the middle of a budget crisis. The State owes RCSD $86 million and has not taken steps to pay that money. Our city has the 3rd highest child poverty rate in the country and 90% of our students are from disadvantaged backgrounds. This is an issue of access and equity.

RCSD has currently proposed mid-year teacher cuts and layoffs that will disrupt our children's learning and have devastating impacts on our schools. This is unacceptable!

While the $86 million is not a long term solution nor will it solve all of our problems, this is money that is owed to us and will help prevent mid-year teacher and building level staff cuts. With this funding we will be able to offer much needed stability within the classroom and will allow our district to make thoughtful changes in the future.
