At this moment both WBAI and WNYC are conducting fundraising drives. Leonard Lopate's old WNYC time slot of 12-2 pm has become a wasteland of frenzied happy talk that is particularly jarring in light of the intelligent, reasoned discussion guided by a peerless interviewer that once prevailed. But thanks to WBAI (99.5 FM), at 1 pm on weekdays we are once again enjoying that same high level of discussion with "Leonard Lopate at Large," one-hour deep-dive conversations that are almost unheard of in radio.
In his daily fundraising pitches, Leonard has made several references to the trying times of more than a year ago now, and noted that many of his former WNYC listeners wrote to tell him that they would support him wherever he ended up.
If you have the means, I hope that you will be financially supporting Leonard’s new home, WBAI. After all, the station has given a home not just to Leonard, but to all of us who cherish smart, informed conversation.
If you aren’t yet supporting WBAI -- which accepts no corporate funding -- please do so now. Call 516-620-3602 or go to give2WBAI.org https://www.give2wbai.org/Default.asp
And when you make your contribution, please let them know you’re doing it in the name of “Leonard Lopate at Large.”
