Exciting news! Leonard Lopate fans will soon be able to hear him five days a week on a New York City broadcast station. After a 33-year absence, Leonard is returning to WBAI, where he got his radio start 41 years ago. Beginning July 16, listener-sponsored WBAI will be the new home for "Leonard Lopate at Large" Monday through Friday from 1-2 pm. WBAI is at 99.5 FM and streamed at WBAI.org. Most of the shows will be live and call-ins will be possible.
All the shows will still also be on the first station to bring Leonard back, Robin Hood Radio, and all shows will be available at Leonard's podcast home, https://robinhoodradioondemand.com/feed/podcast/leonard-lopate-at-at-large
Here's an excerpt from the press release announcing the WBAI relationship:
“So, what does a broadcaster who has interviewed both former and future presidents, 42 Nobel Prize winners and a seemingly unending list of renowned masters of their crafts that includes Tom Hanks, Alice Munro, Neil Young and Francis Ford Coppola, and who has received three Associated Press Awards and three James Beard Awards, plan to do next?
“ ‘I intend to pick up exactly where we left off,’ Lopate said. And that appears to be just what he is doing. New York Times veteran journalist Clyde Haberman will be his guest on the premiere episode of “Leonard Lopate at Large” on July 16. That's when he is set to dive right back into his brand of addictive conversation with the world’s most interesting people.”
