With WBAI’s Fate Uncertain, Lopate Considers Podcasting. Can You Help?

As you know, Leonard Lopate has been hosting a superb hour-long interview show on WBAI, “Leonard Lopate at Large,” for more than a year. But on Monday, October 7, the Pacifica Foundation, which owns WBAI, shut down the station and terminated most employees and all local programming.  A state judge has ordered Pacifica to allow the station to temporarily restart, but the Berkeley, California-based Foundation has so far ignored the order.

With WBAI’s future far from certain, some of Leonard’s fans are urging him to launch a podcast, and he’s interested in exploring this option.  If you have any contacts or expertise in this area, Leonard would love to hear from you.  You can reach him directly at lopateshow@gmail.com

For a talent like Leonard Lopate to remain untapped and unheard is close to criminal, so let’s hope we can find a home for him and his future guests quickly. While we wait, Leonard’s past WBAI shows can be heard on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/leonard-lopate?fbclid=IwAR22K9fVn7YUFNZVFrnW5gjB5MUdHYkSrBifs4xLyhX4fLDrLOlKmiKucm0
