Benjamin N. Cardozo High School is a heavily populated and very diverse high school in Queens, NY. For 3 years we have been under the authority of Principal Colby who is not fit for the role of a principal. The senior class particularly has been majorly affected this year. We have been threatened to be removed from all senior activities (prom, senior trip, senior bbq, etc.) for not handing in our lunch forms. While behavioral issues is an understandable reason for removing senior privileges, the handing-in of lunch forms is a ridiculous reason. We also endured a student slashing in our school to which our ‘principal’ did NOT communicate with the students about and she did NOT explain to us and ensure us that we were safe in the building. We are no longer allowed to enter through the front entrance of the school, but have to enter through the back due to a new ‘security measure’. Ms. Colby doesn’t communicate with the staff, doesn’t communicate with the student body, isn’t supportive of our music, arts, AND athletic programs, and does not communicate well with parents. There was an article written about how she wanted to turn a historic room (Coach Naclerio’s office that contained a letter from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s father and many news clippings recording Cardozo’s history)  in our school into an ROTC room, locking the coach out of his own office to do so. While education is of course the school’s priority, we should not overlook the importance of our extracurricular activities that allow the students to have an outlet and be able to express themselves. Throughout the student body there have been numerous complaints about the principal and her actions for three consecutive years. Enough is enough, the students demand change.
