Up until October 23 dogs were allowed to run off-leash between 9pm - 9am at McCarren Park, courtesy maintained by the NYC Parks and set at many other neighboring parks. 

There are up to 200 dogs that utilize that park every morning.

NYC Parks recently decided to enforce an apparent existing rule to no longer allow off-leash hours at the park, this rule hasn't been enforced for years, and we were provided no explanation as to why. Instead, we have been told to use the dog run in McCarren Park, a very small fenced-in area, which is a fraction of the size of the park. 

There isn't enough capacity at the dog run to accommodate all the dogs that are typically at the park in the morning - and on top of that to also try to social distance.

This is a public health issue. Us dog owners in Williamsburg need to now choose between letting our dog play and risk spreading or getting infected with COVID or having our dogs suffer from no exercise.
