I’ve lived on MacDougal Street for 30 years. I’m used to noise. But this past summer to the present has seen noise levels rise to the most quality-of-life threatening quantities ever on the blocks of MacDougal, Bleecker, 6th Avenue, and West 4th.

LET’S STOP:

*Criminal dirt bike gangs driving their illegal vehicles past police barricades (8/25/21) who then park, revving motors of these non-registered motorcycles to unlawful volume levels. On the weekends, the harassment from these gangs lasts to 4am. Sheer criminality bent on intimidating and bullying citizens.

*Incredibly loud, illegal volume levels of bass frequencies from parked vehicles, along with their infuriatingly loud music.

*Luxury vehicle owners with blacked-out windows backfiring into the street, at the sound level of a bomb.

*Increase in the homeless and mentally deranged endangering tenants.

*Drug dealers openly dealing on stoops, on MacDougal and Bleecker.

*A car crashed into a restaurant (8/15). An officer on the scene said we need hard rubber barriers so the illegal parking on MacDougal is impossible. One day a delivery guy rode his bike over a luxury car--all hell broke loose.

*All this raising stress levels on already crowded blocks of people compressed into tiny spaces –DURING A PANDEMIC.

We need beat cops/foot patrols walking the blocks as we had in the ‘2000s. Cops can carry noise meters, issue tickets and summonses on the spot to law breakers, criminals, and out of control homeless (or call a social worker).

Sign the petition which I will present to city council members at Community Board #2 meetings, who have the power to install beat cops. Precinct 6 is fully on-board with the idea, as is Minetta Tavern, and other local businesses. https://council.nyc.gov/about/
