CALL FOR ACTION: The entering corner to the Ozone Park-Richmond Hill Neighborhood on the corner front of Sybil’s Restaurant, located at 132-17 Liberty Ave has a Blue Lives Matter/Police Support flag hanging in the flagpole, below the national flag.

While some family members and friends of police officers may use this symbol with the sole intention of supporting their loved ones, it has become clear that this symbol is being embraced by white supremacists and that its meaning has come to include beliefs that police should not be held accountable for the extrajudicial murder of Black citizens.

It is time for the Ozone Park-Richmond Hill Community, to denounce the murder of Black individuals nationwide, and that they are committed to the equality for all members. Therefore, we are sending out a “Call for Action” towards City Council Member Adrienne E. Adams is our council representative for District 28 to aid us in this matter.

Even more, we are not just calling for the removal of this flag, but to erect a replacement flag that will represent all major sectors and values within our community, going forward. The replacement flag is a coalition piece of 9 different flags, that represent our community. The Guyanese flag, The Trinidadian flag, The Jamaican Flag, The Dominican Republic flag, The Indian flag, The Puerto Rican flag, The Black Lives Matter flag, The Pride flag, and The Prisoner of War flag.

By replacing the current Blue Lives Matter/Police Support flag, we as a community are not only changing the narrative of our neighborhood but ushering in a new era of true equality and justice for all.
