Sault Ste. Marie City Council directed city staff to prepare a bylaw banning zoos in the city. The staff report and recommendations will be brought back to City Council at some point in the near future. Zoocheck fully supports the City Council directive. Clearly, in this case, the best, easiest and most cost-effective option for addressing the zoo issue, ensuring public safety and helping the animals is for the City of Sault Ste. Marie to push forward with the bylaw they have directed staff to develop. The Spruce Haven Zoo has been around for many years and has had more than enough opportunity to substantially upgrade their animal housing. It is time for a change. Please continue to circulate this petition and write to the Mayor and Members of Council urging them to push forward with their bylaw to finally help Ben the bear and the other animals at Spruce Haven Zoo. A short letter has been added to this petition page to send or use as a template.
