For more than 28 years Lee has been incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. He just spent his 61st birthday in Pontiac Correction Center in custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections. The crime was heinous, but what is equally disturbing is how the Chicago Police Department closed their case.
David Toles, a jailhouse snitch, who Lee supposedly confessed to while in jail awaiting trial, was used as the sole witness to prove the states case. Without this mans testimony, the state had no case against Lee Harris. In 2004, jailhouse snitch David Toles on his own went to the FBI & Cook County State’s Attorney’s office and admitted he lied on the stand against Mr. Harris at the request of Detective Richard Zuley. Please click on the video in this update and you will be able to read the testimony yourself, it was court reported! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m9XuAK9M3I
It’s 2017 and there still has been no relief. The Cook County Conviction Integrity Unit has been looking at this case for more than 13 years. I believe that’s all they are doing, is looking at it, because if they would read what was in the pages, they’d clearly see that Lee was set-up in order to close a high profile murder that wouldn’t leave the nightly news in Chicago until there was an arrest.
Lee’s attorney Jennifer Blagg has not only been on top of this case dissecting it since the very beginning, but she has also dug up a lot of new additional information. Please stay tuned while we tirelessly work on freeing Lee Harris.
Please continue to call and/or email the State's Attorney's office. Tell them you want to voice your support for Lee Harris and a new trial for him. Case number 89CR26697. They can be emailed at statesattorney@cookcountyil.gov or phoned at 312-603-8600.
