The city of New York have recently built a permanent cycle pump track within the Brooklyn district, You may ask yourself why I'm I telling you about this? Well I grew up in Western Sydney and now have Children of my own who like myself love to get out and about. In my youth after school and on weekends, friends and I spent a huge chunk of our time riding bicycles in parklands, public facilities, footpaths and roads which would be at times frowned upon and quite dangerous. At the time there was little to no infrastructure in regards to cycle ways, trails and or BMX/skate parks and although there may have been the occasional groomed dirt BMX race track which was maintained by local (non council) associations here or there that were simply too far away or not available as they would be locked up when not in use. This recent build in New York has inspired me to push for local council to build a permanent low maintenance pump track facility to be built in Penrith and or ever growing surrounding suburbs. In recent years local councils through public interest have realised the need for cycle ways, council run skate board parks, council endorsed bush mountain bike trails and also to add to the list recently 'Western Sydney Parklands' have created the 'Wylde MTB Park' with trails that cater to all levels of cyclists who enjoy dirt trails. The trouble with this type of park is that during extended periods of rain the it can be locked up for days till parkland management deem it is dry enough to ride again, also the location is difficult to access without the use of a motor vehicle and will require ongoing maintainence programmes due to wear and tear with use and erosion. Unlike the soil based constructed the pump tracks built at this (Wylde MTB Park) Cecil Hills, this particular type of pump track which would be constructed from low maintainence products like bitumen and or concrete similar to local skate parks would require just almost zero maintainence and would remain open all year round rain, hail or shine. Please local council, our kids would all benefit with a constructed Pump Track similar to New Yorks recently built one as it could be accessible via public transport. Please jump onboard and sign the petition and sign as without public interest the ever growing population needs to secure a safe, fit and healthy future for our children and families.
