Compromise with student dress code/ return to normal.

At the end of the school year, Sacramento Charter High School suddenly introduced a new dress code that is more strict. Students were not included in this decision.
Some of the dress code changes consist of us only being able to wear solid black or white shoes, and pants from the student store, which will mean buying new clothes that some families may not be able to afford. For many students at our school, it's hard to buy uniforms for school, and having this thrown on students makes it even harder to prepare for the new school year. Students and families, many of whom cannot afford it, should not be required to buy clothes from the school store.
Prior to the new policies, students have tried to organize and make changes in the school system on important issues other than dress code. However, the school board did little to negotiate with students. Therefore, this petition is important because Sacramento Charter High School does not seem to take the views of the students seriously.
There is no type of common ground between the school board and students. We have to show them that we are not just ignorant adolescents that go to school in Oak Park, but sophisticated college-prep individuals.
Stating that a stricter uniform policy will help us become more college-prepared is contradictory when half of our graduates aren't getting through college or going to Sacramento City College because it seems teachers would rather focus on dress code during staff meetings rather than bettering our educations, which we value.
The current dress code is fine. The new dress code plan for next year is ridiculous. This crackdown on uniforms will only make it harder for students to learn because they have to worry about these new and unnecessary policies. Please sign this petition to change that.
