Stop the Panda Power Plant in New Milford

Stop the Panda Power Plant in New Milford
The Issue
DID YOU KNOW?
- Mayor David Gronbach has negotiated a deal to sell New Milford's Century Brass property to Panda Power Funds, a Texas-based private equity firm
- Panda Power plans to construct a 550-megawatt gas-fired power plant on this site in the middle of New Milford — 1 mile from the Town Green
- Based on emissions reports from other Panda facilities using the same technology, the New Milford plant could emit OVER 2 MILLION TONS OF CO2 and multiple carcinogens each year
- The plant would be highly visible and audible, with stacks reaching 10-12 stories high and turbines that can generate up to 70 decibels continuously
- According to Panda's own reps, the source of the gas to power the plant is from the Oil Sands in Canada, the dirtiest fossil fuel on the planet
- Only 25-30 full-time jobs requiring specialized credentials will be available at the plant once construction is complete
- The proposed site for the plant is adjacent to the Housatonic River, close to numerous public ball fields, The Canterbury School and within the 100-year floodplain
- No environmental assessment has been commissioned for the project, and very little information has been made available to the public
- Mayor David Gronbach is pushing for the public to vote on the proposal before the end of 2016
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
